Here we are, already in March—two months into the new year. A lot has happened in this short time—not only in our personal lives but also in the world around us. With so much unfolding so quickly, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or even disappointed about where we are with our goals. Maybe you started the year fast and full of momentum, or you've been moving slowly and steadily. Either way, the weight of expectations can feel heavy.
We set resolutions, chase new goals, and push ourselves to do better. Each January feels like a blank slate, but that same fresh start can bring pressure—to achieve, to change, to improve without flaws. And when life throws unexpected challenges our way, it can make us question if we're even making progress at all.
Perfectionism whispers that we must get everything right, but the Potter tells a different story. Isaiah 64:8 reminds us, And yet, O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, and You are the potter. We are all formed by Your hand. God's work in us isn't limited to a calendar year, nor does it depend on flawless execution. His artistry is an ongoing process, shaping us even through our imperfections and the unpredictability of life.
I know I want everything to be just right—"perfect," I would say in my mind. I struggle with perfectionism. Yet, at the same time, a part of me genuinely desires to do better and serve better—to have a spirit of excellence. But here's the caveat: Am I truly allowing God to take control of the work I put my hands to?
I am fully aware of God's presence, but awareness is not the same as surrender. I can recognize His hand in my life, yet still hold on too tightly, fearing that it won't be good enough if I don't get everything just right. But the Potter doesn't ask the clay to mold itself—He asks it to yield, trust His hands, and become what He is shaping it to be.
When we cling too tightly to perfection, we risk missing the grace and growth found in surrender. But even if we're hitting every goal and moving full speed ahead, we must be careful not to outrun God. Achievements, promotions, and progress are all good things, but they are empty if we lose sight of the One who gives them meaning. Success without surrender can lead to striving without peace.
Whether the past two months have been filled with progress or struggles, know this—God isn't asking you to begin the year perfectly; He's asking you to begin it with Him. Your cracks, flaws, and setbacks don't disqualify you—they become the places where His love and strength shine through. And even in our victories, He reminds us that true success is staying rooted in Him.
So as you move forward, whether at full speed or barely holding on, release the need to have everything figured out. Trust that the Potter is shaping you with intention and care. Your value isn't found in checking off goals or being flawless; it's found in simply being His.

As we continue into the year, learn to release the pressure to be perfect. Ask God to teach you to trust in His process, to rest in His Hands, and to shape you according to His will. Remember that your worth comes from being His, not accomplishments. Allow Him to guide you as you walk into this year with faith, grace, and hope as we continue to live to breathe again.
How has your year started so far? Has the world's chaos impacted your goals or faith in any way? What is God teaching you in this season? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
